Child Welfare Program

Brief Description of Services Offered:

The team provides family-centered culturally competent services individualized according to the strengths and needs of each adult and their family to support and sustain the adult in their family system, or the least restrictive and most clinically appropriate environment. Family commitment and participation are essential and expected.

Program Goals:
To provide intensive community-based services to families that will strengthen the family system, resulting in reunification and living successfully in the community.

  • Assist eligible families so children may be cared for in their own homes or the homes of relatives.
  • End the dependence of needy parents on government benefits by promoting job preparation, work, and marriage.
  • Prevent and reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock pregnancies and establish annual numerical goals for preventing and reducing the incidence of these families.
  • Encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.

Criteria:
Adults eligible for Child Welfare team services that have a mental health or co-occurring mental health substance use disorder diagnoses with accompanying characteristics such as:

  • Be at risk for welfare dependency or struggling with parental responsibilities;
  • A parent or relative caretaker with one or more minor children living in the home;
  • A pregnant woman;
  • A family whose children have been removed from the home by the Child Welfare Program (as long as the treatment is included or added to the active family reunification goals in the case plan);
  • A non-custodial parent with a court order to pay child support.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals under the age of 18
  • Individuals that reside outside of Brevard County Florida
  • Individuals who are not parents or primary/non-custodial caregivers for minor children

Is Insurance required? No

Referral Process:
A referral form is to be completed by the referring agency, concerned professional, family member, or self-referral completed by the client, identifying the client’s demographic and contact information as well as their current mental health and/or substance use needs.

Once a referral is received, the client will be contacted by a Child Welfare Team care coordinator to schedule intake and assessment.
